Tarot for the Collective
With Valentine’s Day just about in the rear view, a reading around relationships seems a good fit for this week’s Tarot Forecast. This spread works for the relationship you have with yourself, or a relationship with another, whether it be romantic, business, or platonic. The cards ask: What brings you together, What can pull you apart, What needs nurturing.

The reading opens with the Queen of Pentacles, who governs balance with work, career, finances, and our earthly possessions. This indicates shared goals, inspiration, or motivation towards these matters as the energy pulling your relationship together. This queen typically embodies a down-to-earth attitude to life. She’s resourceful and reliable. When it comes to creativity, she has great ideas, but remains grounded in practicality. With her strong nurturing nature, she highlights how care for each other is an important aspect within the relationship. She’s caring, but sensible, so not the kind of person to allow emotional overwhelm. This queen is also a master manifestor, so within this relationship, common goals embodying all the above attributes should be easily achievable when you work together in harmony.
“Mercy bears richer fruits than strict justice.”
- Abraham Lincoln
The stern Emperor appears in the position of what can pull you apart, and with his strict leadership, it indicates trying to over-manage, take control, or leave no room for freedom/self-expression as the actions that can cause a rift in your relationship. Where the Queen of Pentacles brings warm nurturing, the Emperor has a cooler, more stern energy. This kind of authoritarian behaviour does not suit your relationship. Rules, boundaries, nagging, and highlighting disappointment rub harshly against nurturing queen energy, so are likely to cause problems. Two queens appear in this spread, so leadership is already present, but it’s the kind of regulation that allows room for self-expression and expansion, which the Emperor can sometimes squash. So, watch out for trying to shoehorn too much discipline into the relationship. It’s only going to drive you apart.
A second queen doubles feminine energy, and as the Queen of Swords is all about logic and communication, she’s here to encourage astuteness, straightforward communication, and attention to detail. The Queen of Swords is a smart cookie, one who doesn’t tolerate bullshit. Where the Emperor can bring tough, restrictive characteristics, the Queen of Swords encourages a softer more feminine approach when she builds structure. Smart, not harsh, she says. Open communication is key; the space for both parties to speak their minds and share their opinions. Where communication flows, trust grows, so to nurture this relationship, encourage clear-headed thinking and non-judgemental perspectives.
Practical thinking, open communication, and non-judgemental attitudes will all help to nurture relationships this week. Double queen energy highlights the need for a softer approach. Queens bring deep nurturing energy, so even though smart and practical is called for, a healthy dollop of motherly love will be the key ingredient for whatever relationship you’re focusing on.
