Hello, Creatives!
Sunday 22nd September is the Autumn Equinox, a time when day and night share equal hours in the day. The equinox heralds the return of shorter days and longer nights, but also gives us the opportunity to reflect on balance and equilibrium. It’s also a great time to consider how we wish to close out the final few months of the year. Have we exceeded or fallen short on goals? Are we pleased with our harvest, and what do we plan to sow in the new year?
This week, Tarot for Creatives asks: Where do I hold healthy balance? Where is balance unstable. What change should I be preparing for?
A trio of Swords brings themes of mindset and logic to the fore this week. We open with the 4 of Swords, the card of rest and recuperation. In the Healthy Balance position, it indicates a flow between mind and body; knowing when it’s time to retreat and rest, but also when to retreat to examine strategy. Further ahead the 8 and 3 of Swords demand courage and logic, so it’s important to maintain this beneficial balance of rest and recuperation over the upcoming days. Maintain the current healthy balance of self care is the overall message here, along with crafting a strategy in order to overcome what lies ahead with the 8 and 3 of Swords.
“When we change our perception we gain control. The stress becomes a challenge, not a threat. When we commit to action, to actually doing something rather than feeling trapped by events, the stress in our life becomes manageable.” – Greg Anderson (Author)
Unstable balance surrounds 8 of Swords energy which carries a theme of self-inflicted binds. When the 8 of Swords appears, it’s a call to turn the spotlight of blame onto ourselves. Reflect on where you feel stuck at this time and how your thoughts and/or actions have brought about the situation as within that answer lies the way out. This state of being trapped by circumstance won’t last, but to find release demands courage as you, and only you, can cut the ropes.
Another aspect of this card is restriction brought about by too many responsibilities. Again, it calls for examining what brought you into this situation, and what steps must be taken to ease the binds. Overall, freedom and self power are challenged by instability at this time. Take the time to reflect on how you’ve reached this point, and from there, the way forward will become clear.
The 3 of Swords speaks of grief and loss. It’s a challenging card, but great reward lies in embracing its message. Prepare to face heart hurt. Whether it’s the recent loss of a relationship, a death, an argument, or loneliness, healing is necessary. The only way through hell is through it, so the 3 of Swords is a message to feel your feels; whatever hurt stings your heart, allow it to burn. Acknowledge the pain in place of shoving it down. Allow the grief to rise and release, and once it does, you’ll feel lighter—and more importantly—stronger.
All four Swords play off each other in this week’s reading. Rest and strategy are our friends in order to overcome binds. Once free, we may face heart hurt, but the loss will be temporary. By acknowledging the sorrow and working through it, we’ll emerge stronger than before. Not the the easiest energy forecast for the week ahead, so remember to take lots of time for self care!
