Hello, Creatives!
Today brings us a First Quarter in the moon’s cycle. The Full Moon arrives next Monday, so as we build to its fertile energy, use this week to hone in on the themes of balance, perseverance, and overcoming obstacles in your creative work. With the energy that assists manifestation building, momentum plays an important role, but imbalance could create a few speed wobbles! With this in mind, this week’s spread asks where we can welcome more balance, how we can encourage perseverance, and how to overcome any obstacles we might be facing in our creative endeavours right now.
Our first card this week is the spiky 3 of Swords. The card of loss, heartache, and rejection, it’s not the nicest to look at, but does carry an important message when it comes to growth. Raw sorrow, especially when caused by hurt, can be one of the hardest emotions to process. When did you last feel rejected? It may have been a romantic rebuff, or perhaps your creative work was declined, but either way, the sting of that rejection cuts deep. The 3 of Swords reminds us that we need to feel that hurt. Acknowledge the pain of your loss, accept it into your heart, but then remind yourself that ‘this too shall pass’ and take steps to brush yourself down and move on.
Imbalance is created when we don’t acknowledge pain and work to shove it deep down, never to be thought of again. But by doing so, we can’t move past the event, so it festers, and eventually grows too gnarly to be ignored. As we move into a new week, assess your emotional balance and ask what hurt you might be shoving down. By acknowledging, and then releasing that bitter emotion, you’ll create space for something better to come, and in turn, restore balance.
"A river cuts through a rock not because of its power, but its persistence."
The 8 of Wands calls for action when it comes to encouraging perseverance. With a message of movement, speed, and swift change, it promotes momentum. Perseverance means to continue in a course of action with determination, and like the wands in the card, a steady and determined flight path is key. If you’re experiencing a block or feeling stuck with an aspect of your work, shift to another to keep moving forward with your project. With this card also suggesting travel, maybe a change of scenery might encourage new inspiration? You don’t need to go far either; a breath of fresh air in a local park or gallery might stir new ideas or help get you unstuck. Either way, the message here is to keep moving with determination.
With the 10 of Wands representing toil, an obstacle you might be facing right now is exhaustion. The 10 of Wands is that final mile, when you’re drained and just want to get whatever the damn thing is finished. Appearing here, this card is a reminder to hang on for this last stretch. You’re almost there, and with tens being cards of completion, the end is in sight! Take a moment to check your workload. Have you taken on too much? Have you said ‘yes’ once too many times and left yourself grappling with others’ responsibilities? Now is the time to delegate, or simply hand back tasks distracting you from reaching that finish line. With the momentum of the 8 of Wands at your rear, you need to lighten the load so you can soar again.
Playing the martyr often appears with this card, so ask yourself why you accepted the extra work in the first place. If it’s a tendency to want to be the hero, work on avoiding that behaviour going forward as it won't serve your better good.
An interesting week ahead with a little heart-centred work and focused action required. It’s been a long time since the 8 of Wands appeared in any reading, whether personally or for clients, so it was great to see it today. I certainly prefer it to the 3 of Swords . . .
