Tarot for Creatives June 24th to 30th 2024

Hello, Creatives!

Belated Summer Solstice greetings! Did you celebrate? I was due to be in Scotland, but had to cancel my plans, and in the end, the surgery was postponed—again. . . Sigh. Allegedly, it’s happening this week, but I’ll believe it when I’m on the table and the anaesthetic is kicking in!

No defined spread this week, I’ll let the cards do all the talking!

Tarot cards on a black cloth with a skull candle and an amethyst crystal
The Devil, 3 of Cups, 4 of Cups. Deck: Buffy the Vampire Slayer

The Devil is one of those cards in tarot that holds up a mirror, and what we see in the reflection, we don’t like. The question is; do we force ourselves to look, or do we turn away? (You know which serves you better!)

Forcing ourselves to look means admitting there’s an issue, and with The Devil, that can take the form of addiction, detrimental behaviour, unhealthy relationships, and/or believing we’re ‘trapped’ in a situation. The key to working with The Devil is understanding it is not ‘he/she/it’ who binds us, but ourselves. Typically, we have allowed ourselves to believe that we cannot break free of a situation because of A, B, or C, when in fact, the main factor holding us in place is us and our fear.

To smash the chains of The Devil we must admit out fear, but take action regardless. Consider what situation/people/person has you feeling chained at this time. Chances are, you already know the way out, but are too afraid to snap that first link. Can you picture how much better your situation will be when you do? Focus on that as you take action.

“Cages come in lots of different colours and shapes. Some are gilded, while others have a slamming door. But golden handcuffs are still handcuffs.” - Amy Harmon

To break the cycle of the Devil, look to the 3 of Cups and its theme of community. While the image of the card depicts celebration, the strength in the 3 of Cups lies in connection. Reach out to those you can trust and ask for their help or support with your situation. It may be a professional body, friends, or family, but help is waiting and only needs you to ask for it.

The outpouring of emotion that comes with the 3 of Cups is a healing one. Like the figures in the card, joining forces will lighten the load and restore hope, along with bringing a reminder that the strength needed to make a positive change is within, and that on-one holds power over your life except you.

The 4 of Cups closes out the reading with a message to avoid rash decisions. A little healing and rest is needed, so while you may find yourself presented with opportunities (typically emotional or creative offers) it’s best to meditate on them before making a decision.

If you’ve broken the chains of The Devil, you may be feeling emotionally fragile, so placing yourself in a situation that requires robust emotional health won’t serve your better good. Try not to force yourself into being emotionally available for other people. This is a time when rest and recuperation is vital. Lean into that 3 of Cups energy of support again if necessary.

Overall, a week of emotional highs and lows is indicated. Moving out of The Devil’s clutches will take courage, so ask for support. Protect your emotional welfare with plenty of rest, and if necessary, solitude!
