Hello, Creatives!
Tomorrow, June 21st, is the Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere. The word ‘Solstice’ comes from the Latin ‘Solstitium’ which means ‘sun stopping’ and refers to the position of the sunrise and sunset on the horizon. Both positions have been travelling north by day but will now pause, then start to travel south. It’s the longest day and shortest night of the year, with daylight here in Ireland lasting just a few seconds beyond 17 hours. The Summer Solstice brings with it themes of growth, joy, lust, indulgence, and fulfilment. Celebrated for being the most fertile time of year, traditions centre around a bountiful harvest while offering thanks for inner and outer abundance.
This week’s blog will celebrate the Solstice with simple rituals and a more in-depth tarot spread, but for today, here’s an easy 3-card spread for a quick pre-solstice check in asking How can I align with the Sun’s energy, What must I weed out, and How can I manifest my dreams? To celebrate Pride month, and because I can’t get enough of this gorgeous deck, I’ll be using the Pride Tarot again this week.
Making another appearance this week is the Moon. It’s quite a contrasting card for the current Sun energy, but its message here is to take the time to acknowledge what’s in shadow, and with intentions of fulfilment and joy, throw light into those darker corners so abundance and fertility can take its place. With the Moon being the card of illusion, you may not even be aware of what requires illuminating, but you can begin by asking what provokes fear or worry for you right now. Is there an issue you’ve been ignoring? Have you been telling yourself you’re fine, and there’s no need to dwell on the prickly subject? The Moon suggests the issue carries heightened emotion which is not the easiest to face, but in this season of transformative Sun energy, the time is ripe for taking action. Shine bright and brave. Assert yourself by claiming more light than dark. The Sun is here to burn away what is no longer needed.

The Ace of Cups sits in the What Must I Weed Out position, and with a message that ties in closely with the Moon, it too asks you to consider what heavy emotion swirls about you at this time. With Cups representing relationships, intuition, and creativity, examine what recently came to life in these areas, and how it has effected you emotionally. With the Moon’s influence, you may not even be aware of from where the raw emotion stemmed, or how much it really bothers you, as chances are you’re working with the Moon’s illusion mindset and pretending everything is fine. Keep in mind the current season. The Solstice is a time of celebrating, of anticipating a fine harvest following a season of hard graft. Don’t thieve yourself of this bounty by shoving issues into the shadows. Weed out what it is that has you unsettled and chuck it on the bonfire.
Channel your inner Sass Queen this week.
Here comes the feisty Queen of Swords to tell you how to manifest your dreams. With her crown of butterflies symbolising transformation, it bodes well for the work demanded by the Moon and Ace of Cups. Her companion Hawk signifies freedom and creativity, a message to let your creative spirit flow. Swords represent communication and logical thought, and with the Queen grasping the sword, it indicates cutting ruthlessly through the binds preventing your creative flow. A few sharp words might be what you need to wield right now. With her alert position, this drag queen is ready to speak her truth and let you know what’s what. Grace is present, but so is a take no shit attitude, and with the emotive nature of the Ace and Moon at your rear, assertiveness will help you move into manifesting what you truly desire. The Queen uses her logic too, a message for you to shift from heart-centred thought to more calculating head-centred thought, from there, you can return to tending what will bring an abundant harvest.
It appears heightened emotion stems creative flow and the ability to manifest dreams this week. If we can face what has been hidden and deal with it head on by channelling the logic and courage of the Queen, we’ll get back into our groove. Watch out for Hawk and Butterfly as you move through the week. An appearance will indicate you’re on the right track!
P.S: I'll be taking a break next week, so Tarot for Creatives will return on July 4th.
