Tarot for Creatives July 18th to 24th 2022

Hello, Creatives!

Welcome to another Tarot for Creatives and I’m coming at you from a very hot Dublin this week. Right now I have all the doors and windows open to encourage the meek sea breeze in through the house. It’s not even 11am, and it’s already 24 Celsius, which Google tells me is 75 Fahrenheit. We’re not built for this heat, and neither are our air-con free homes, so temps like these leave us melting, and missing rainy days.

By request, this week’s reading focuses on maintaining positivity while creating. Between imposter syndrome, comparing our work to others, and sometimes our hearts just not being engaged, a creative project can stir dread instead of joy. Here’s a 3-card spread which can be used to shake up the energy and help you find more love for the task at hand.

What is negatively impacting creative energy, How to overcome this obstacle,

Where does positivity lie going forward?

Tarot for Creatives Forecast July 18th to 24th 2022
Queen of Swords, 8 of Cups, 2 of Cups. Deck: Samiramay Tarot

The Queen of Swords strikes with a message of potential conflict and/or sharp-tongued communication within creative projects. While the Queen is adept at logical thinking and clear communication, she can have a whiplash tongue, and resist heart-centred thinking. Consider how communication is affecting your work. Are different opinions causing tension? If so, take a leaf from the Queen’s book and arrange to sit down and calmly discuss the situation. Try to leave emotion aside, and opt for open, honest discussion.

Online interaction should also be examined. With Swords the cards of communication, and social media such an important tool for many creatives, note how you interact online, and how you feel when scrolling. If you’re falling into the trap of comparing yourself to others, and coming away feeling inadequate, take a break from the online world. If it’s face-to-face interactions causing problems, then ease yourself away from these too. Swing your sword and cleave the negativity from your creative zone. Be firm with those dulling your shine—including yourself if necessary.

"Never forget that walking away from something unhealthy is brave, even if you stumble a little on your way out the door."

Detachment is the theme of the 8 of Cups, and in the How to Overcome position, it cements the message of cutting out that which isn’t serving. Two Cups in this spread steer you towards heart-centred thinking, reconnecting with intuition, and self-love. The 8 of Cups can be seen as sacrifice; accepting a loss in order to move towards better things. Disconnect is important, and while you might worry about what you may lose in the process, know that what’s waiting is far better. With a return to Cups energy, creativity will flow smoothly again, so once you’ve acted on the Queen’s message and made the cut, ensure you focus on you, and you only!

Positivity lies in the affinity of the 2 of Cups. A card of partnership, flow, and connection, it suggests a new partnership. This may not be a partnership between two individuals, but a new beginning between you and your creative self, where now that you’ve shed the old, restrictive energy, you have a clean slate with which to begin. Listen to your intuition as you decide how to move forward. How can you better care for yourself and your creative energy? How do you want to feel when creating? What steps can you take to manifest that?

With twos representing balance, and Cups the cards of love and emotion, ensure you’re striking a healthy balance between work, play, and self-care. After the turmoil of the Queen, a little TLC may be required, so be kind to yourself. Going forward, as new opportunity comes your way, have a quick check-in with yourself before committing to anything. Will the project fill or drain your cup? Will it allow you to maintain balance? Enhance your relationship with self, and with that strong foundation, future conflict won’t shake you up as easily.

For me personally, this proved a very insightful reading, and I hope it brings guidance for you too! The message of the 2 of Cups is one we all need reminding of every so often. It’s way too easy to neglect our own needs over others and answer demands without pausing for thought of how it may effect our creative energy. By channelling the Queen’s decisive energy, making the disconnect, and returning to basics with ourselves, creative energy will flow with ease once again!
