Hello, Creatives!
The pagan festival of Imbolc takes place this Wednesday, 1st February. Observed through to sundown on February 2nd it marks the halfway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox, and celebrates the themes of rebirth, fertility, and the arrival of Spring. Associated with Brigid, the goddess of fertility, poets and crafts, this festival is typically marked by the traditions of burning lamps and lighting bonfires.
This week’s Tarot for Creatives focusing on Imbolc’s themes of rebirth, fire, and fertility by asking: What is emerging at this time, What needs to be purged, What hope comes with Spring?
Celebration, abundance, and creativity is emerging! The 3 of Cups brings a wonderful start to the reading, with a message of fun and joy. You may feel as if you’re emerging into bright sunshine this week as you enjoy time well spent with friends, family, or community. There may even be a reunion with old friends. With themes of festivity, this is such an apt card for Imbolc! Community is a theme of this card too, so an indication of coming together with your peers to create something new and exciting. Overall, a positive happy card that simply tells us to enjoy ourselves!
“Comparison is the thief of joy.” - Theodore Roosevelt
It’s time to purge the conflict of competition from your creative endeavours. If you’ve ever caught yourself comparing your work, progress, or results to others, you’ll know how soul-destroying it can be. The 5 of Wands tells us a little healthy competition can be a good thing, but when focus lies solely on comparison, and progress is fuelled by the determination to ‘win’, you’re on a slippery slope.
Reflect on where you might be seeking a win within your creative endeavours, and if achieving that goal flows with, or goes against, your integrity. Competition is valuable when it drives us to be our best, but as soon as negative emotions such as jealousy or resentment creep in, creative flow is threatened. Purge that which stirs negative emotions within your creativity. It may mean disconnecting from social media or a community, but once you can shake off that sense of being threatened by others' success, you’ll find yourself creating from a more ethical and durable mindset.
Woohoo! Victory!
Following on from the 5, we have the 6 of Wands telling us that with the spring, we can expect victory! What you’ve been working towards will be realised, and with your supporters cheering you on, you’ll celebrate a triumph. With the conflict of the 5 purged, we can now move ahead. We still have a way to go, but the path ahead lies open and clear.
Keep your focus on you as you continue to work. Hold firm with integrity and remember those who have helped you along. Who might need your support as the next few weeks unfold? Consider paying forward the solidarity and backing you’ve enjoyed by offering the same to someone who may be struggling with 5 of Wands energy. Check in with yourself, too. Be mindful of the temptation to compare and how it can negatively affect your thoughts, and ultimately your creative flow.
Overall, a positive message for the week ahead. The 3 of Cups is such a timely card for the celebrations of brighter days as Imbolc nears. Lots of positive energy here, so enjoy!
