Hello, Creatives!
The Wheel has turned once more to usher us into the season of Yule. Yule begins on the Winter Solstice, and although the days now slowly lengthen, Yule is a time to remain cosy indoors, embracing self-care, introspection, and connecting with loved ones in this season of merriment. Spring is just around the corner, waiting to stir the soil into life again, so now is the perfect time to focus on what to sow for the year ahead. It’s also a time for reflection; to deliberate on the year drawing to a close, where we currently stand, and where we aim our intentions next. With this in mind, this final Tarot for Creatives reading for 2024 is with the Past, Present, Future spread.
Perseverance is the theme of the 9 of Wands. Appearing in the Past position it reflects how a setback struck during the year, demanding you step up and throw everything into overcoming the challenge. The fight may have left you exhausted, but you remained stalwart, determined to keep aiming for success. Reflect on how you overcame the obstacle and what you learned from it. How will this help you going forward?
Paranoia is also a theme of this card, indicating uncertainty around a situation or person. Does a betrayal haunt you? If the wound of a past hurt refuses to heal, the message here is that without healing, the memory risks obstructing completion. Nines are the last mile before the closure energy of the Tens come in, so to move forward, find trust again—with yourself and others.
"Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time." - Thomas Edison
Thankfully, this second nine, the 9 of Swords, is reversed, bringing happy news of an end to worry and anxiety. A nightmare situation comes to an end. This can come in the form of support, healing, or recuperation. Either way, there’s light at the end of the tunnel. Much like the days slowly lengthen now we’ve passed the Winter Solstice, so does a difficult situation end. Hope is blooming, and with it, a new found strength. As the second nine in this spread, and one with such a hopeful message, it echoes the message of near completion. A final push and goals will be reached!
The tricky energy of the 5 of Swords lies in the future. This card indicates a hollow victory, typically won by nefarious means. The question is, who’ll be the instigator—you, or another person?
With the ‘almost there’ messages of the two nines, slipping backwards into challenging five energy suggests the threat comes from an external force, so remain alert for an unexpected conquest; a takeover or win you didn’t see coming. Potentially, someone could be acting dishonourably, operating with a lack of morals with the sole intent of ripping you off. Could this be the same person who haunts you with the 9 of Wands? Now is the time to engage with your intuition. If you get that poke of uncertainty, listen to the warning. Forewarned is forearmed, so heed your instinct and lean into the past experience of the 9 of Wands to navigate your way through this hostile energy. You may need to wield creative thinking as 5 of Swords challengers work with cold, calculated logic.
Finally, if the instigator of the malice is you, be warned that while you may gain the brief thrill of a ‘win’, it won’t last. Taking an unfair advantage will do more damage to yourself than anyone else.
Not the nicest card to end this final Tarot for Creatives reading, but advance warning is always welcome! With the two nines, especially the message of hope with the reversed 9 of Swords, we are gifted the positive sign of having the ability and smarts to overcome whatever challenge the 5 of Swords may bring.
