I hope your week is treating you well so far? This week’s Tarot for Creatives reading is by request. A subscriber asked for a 3-card spread to tackle a sense of losing control with creative projects and not being able to see the wood for the trees. I’ve chosen the Motivation, External Influences, Wisdom spread which examines what sparks action, what’s out of our control and therefore something we have to work with instead of against, and what wisdom to the cards suggest with how to deal with what’s out of our control. That’s a big demand for only three cards, but let’s see what they say!
The High Priestess is the first of two major arcana appearing in the spread. In the Motivation position, she speaks of inner knowing, the kind that fills us with pure confidence in our work. The Wise Woman of the deck, the High Priestess doesn’t seek answers from the outside world, but knows everything she seeks lies within. When we create from this precious space, we find ourselves simply knowing we’re on the right track, and that everything will work out fine, even if we can’t clearly communicate what it is we’re doing, or how we plan on doing it. This confidence brings great motivation, as from our viewpoint, the road ahead lies debris free, and all we need to do is put our foot to the pedal. Who cares if we don’t have a map?
"The only way to win with a toxic person is not to play."
A card of conflict, the win achieved when working with 5 of Swords energy is a hollow one. To gain an advantage, deception has been employed, but while there may be a victory, there’s nothing to show for it, nor people to cheer in celebration. As an External Influence, examine how you’re feeling threatened right now. Is someone pulling the wool over your eyes? The High Priestess clears her throat at your rear, to remind you to retreat within for the answer, as it may not be something obvious. She also brings a message of mystery, so whatever external influence has control slipping through your fingers, you’ll have to look hard to uncover it.
Who would gain from your failure? As you struggle to stay on your creative path, who’s throwing the roadblocks in your way? Swords deal with communication and logic, so be open to considering someone who talks the talk, but maybe walking a different, and sneaky, walk behind your back. To deal with this influence, stick to your guns. Hold the unshakeable confidence of the High Priestess to your chest and move ahead with your creative work. Be smart. Keep your ears and eyes open, and be open to whatever intuitive nudges come your way.
Karma's a bit*h, baby.
Justice marches in with a message of fairness. She’s a karma queen, here to tell you that actions taken in the past now influence the present, and what has been sown is about to reaped—good or bad. Does this mean the 5 of Swords situation may face justice? It certainly may. Justice is just as wise as the High Priestess, but where the HP relies heavily on intuition, Justice loves cold, hard facts. The force behind deceptive practices will be unveiled, and the perpetrators will face retribution. Integrity is your best friend right now. Examine your options as you decide how to move forward, but choose with care. Avoid taking the easy route for a quick win, as that only leads back to 5 of Swords energy. Justice carries a sword, so it may be necessary to cut your losses in some aspects to lighten your load. Regardless, take responsibility for yourself. The actions of others are not your concern. Justice will deal with them.
Two powerful feminine energies flanking that pesky 5 of Swords this week! The 5 and 7 of Swords are my two least favourite cards in the deck, as they typically indicate clever manipulation that causes hassle. But the HP and Justice are here to save the day, so clutch your confidence tight, work from a place of integrity, and you’ll emerge victorious. Have a wonderful week, creative souls!
